scenes of living Leonie Schnippering

Scenes of Living is an architectural proposal that brings technical production, theatrical creation, and collective living into a shared spatial system. Instead of separating these functions, the project weaves them together spatially, atmospherically, and structurally.
At its core, the building hosts two forms of production: the making of trusses and the creation of theatre, including rehearsal, costume, direction, and performance. These coexist side by side, embedded in one architectural logic.
Located at the harbor’s edge, the building opens toward the water with a large stage a public gesture that turns the city into its audience. Its outer skin, made of visible trusses, transforms the building into a showroom for its own product, merging structure and expression.
The ground floor houses the truss workshop, organized by each processing stage. A cutting channel runs through the space; varied ceiling heights respond to different technical needs, forming a stepped industrial landscape. This topography becomes the base for a central stage and auditorium seating.
The residential ring starts at ground level with a generous theater entrance. It doesn’t simply rest on top of the production space, but adapts to it. Where higher spaces are needed below, the living area compresses into more intimate zones for sleeping or bathing. Where production is compact, the space above expands for making, gathering, or rehearsal.
Rather than fixed rooms, the ring is a flowing sequence, shaped by curtains and steps. It offers a way of living shaped by movement and transformation, where boundaries between work, rest, and creation remain fluid.
